Mumbai: Former head coach Ravi Shastri has lauded young Sai Sudharsan as an all-format batsman, advocating for his inclusion in India’s Test squad for the upcoming England tour. India will commence their new World Test Championship cycle (2025-2027) with a five-match Test series against England.
Shastri highlighted Sudharsan’s impressive form in the IPL, where he currently holds the second-highest run tally with 456 runs for Gujarat Titans. Speaking on the ICC Review, Shastri stated, “I think this young player Sai Sudharsan is an all-format player. He is a fantastic cricketer. Being a left-hander and technically sound, I would like to see him in the Indian team in English conditions.”
He also mentioned Shreyas Iyer, who has been in good form in limited-overs cricket and the IPL, as a potential selection, but noted the stiff competition. Shastri emphasized the need for a left-arm pacer in India’s bowling attack, especially with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami returning from injuries. He suggested Arshdeep Singh could be considered if his red-ball record shows he can bowl 15-20 overs consistently, valuing his left-arm angle and thoughtful approach.
